Japan logs longest run of trade deficits in over 30 years

Japan exports rose 14.7 percent in August from a year ago, data on Thursday showed, topping a Reuters forecast of 13.9 percent and marking the fastest pace in three years.

Imports in the month climbed 16 percent on year, missing expectations of a 18.5 percent rise, and bringing trade deficit to 960.3 billion yen ($9.77 billion).

This means Japan has logged a trade deficit for 14th straight months, its longest run since 1979-1980.
