Tesla CEO Elon Musk plans to equip his company's Model S sedans with the Google Chrome Web browser and open the onboard computer system to apps by third-party developers according to an Endgadget article.

The company is considering installing an "Android emulator" on its cars, which would enable the system to run Android apps directly in the sedan, Musk said to applause at a conference in Germany.

Tesla will likely at least open the car's native software to developers toward the end of next year, once the company finishes making some necessary upgrades and changes.

"If someone has written an app for Android or, to a lesser extent, the iPhone, it should be pretty easy" to adapt the app to the car's operating system, Musk said.
