US govt says access to HealthCare.gov restored as of 8:15am ET

Source: Heathcare.gov

Access to HealthCare.gov resumed Thursday morning after a prolonged outage the government blamed on networking provider Verizon Terremark.

The website for the new federal Obamacareexchange has been plagued by outages and access issues ever since its launch earlier this month.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, in Congressional testimony Wednesday, called the launch a 'debacle' and accepted blame. President Obama, in a speech Wednesday, also said the launch had not been acceptable.

In a statement Thursday, HHS said Verizon Terremark rebuilt a key system overnight to restore service to the data center that powers the website.
