New Orleans makes a pitch for investment

Nearly nine years later, the city of New Orleans is about 80 percent recovered from the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, Mayor Mitch Landrieu told CNBC on Friday.

In a "Squawk Box" interview, Landrieu told a story of a city that's on the rise with new businesses opening up. Job creators like the movie and digital media industries did an "$800 million book of business last year," he added.

The Democratic mayor didn't shy away from tough questions about crime in the city, but said there's a difference between "perception and reality." He contended that New Orleans is No. 80 among major cities in violent crime.

In this video, Landrieu makes the case and provides three reasons why investment dollars should find their way to New Orleans.
