Russia calls emergency UN meeting for cease-fire

Russia has called an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council to introduce a resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine.

Russia holds the Security Council presidency in June and Russia's U.N. Mission said the meeting will take place at 4 p.m. EDT (2000 GMT) on Monday.

The mission said the resolution will also call for an immediate start of negotiations to end the violence.

For weeks, Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine has been the scene of deadly clashes between government troops and pro-Russian insurgents.
