The Human Rights Campaign praised Apple CEO Tim Cook's op-ed in Bloomberg Businessweek on Thursday that said he is "proud to be gay."

"Tim Cook's announcement today will save countless lives. He has always been a role model, but today millions across the globe will draw inspiration from a different aspect of his life," the organization said in a release.

As the largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality in the United States, the group commended Apple's continued support of the LGBT community.
