This billionaire really likes Halloween.

Every year, hedge fund titan Marc Lasry turns his posh New York City home into an elaborate haunted house.

Appeared on CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Halloween, the founder of Avenue Capital took a time out Friday from talking about his investment strategies to explain what motivates his ghoulish display.

"We have five children," Lasry started. "So when the kids were growing up, we started putting things out at the house. And every year it got bigger and bigger."

He said he's always surprised that some kids who come to trick or treat take just one or two pieces of candy, while others just grab a handful.
