Move over, Tiger: EA has a new golf face

Electronic Arts' golf franchise has a new face.

Rory McIlroy will appear on the cover of the "Rory McIlroy PGA Tour" video game, which is slated for release this summer, EA said on Monday. The Northern Irish golfer, 25, is currently the world's top-ranked player and has won four major championships in his career.

The company looks to refresh its golf franchise after it ended its partnership with previous figurehead Tiger Woods nearly two years ago. EA released more than 10 "Tiger Woods" titles, the last of which came out in 2013.

McIlroy represents "a new generation of players for a new generation of consoles," EA said. The game is scheduled for release on Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's Playstation 4 in June.

EA's sports offerings currently include the popular "Madden" and "FIFA" franchises. Shares in the company were trading more than 1 percent higher on Monday afternoon.
