Having more sex will not necessarily make you a happier person, contrary to previous research, according to a new study reported in the New York Times.
Previous research has suggested that more frequent sex makes people happier—especially a study published in 2004 that concluded that a four-fold increase in sexual activity gave an emotional boost equivalent to having an extra $50,000 in the bank.
But a group of researchers writing in the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization recently ran a trial where they told subjects to double the number of times they had sex over the course of three months. Many of the couples could not manage more than a 40 percent increase in sexual activity, and most of the subjects actually reported feeling worse, with some complaining that the quality of sex declined.
