Blue Bell attracts billionaire in comeback quest

As Blue Bell Creameries struggles to return its ice cream to store shelves, it has a new ally in the quest: Texas oil tycoon billionaire Sid Bass.

Bass has become an investor and partner with the company, which has struggled to return product to stores after a massive recall in April, it announced Tuesday.

"The additional capital will ensure the successful return of our ice cream to the market and our loyal customers," said Paul Kruse, Blue Bell CEO and President, in a release.

In late April, the company voluntarily recalled all of its items because they had the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause fatal infections. The move follows earlier smaller recalls starting the month before.
