Users of social media site Facebook reported experiencing outages Thursday afternoon. Between 2 p.m. and 2:25 p.m. eastern standard time, the U.S. login page Facebook.com read, "Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can."

It was unclear how many users were affected. Facebook did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.

The ubiquitous social network was not the only to experience downtime this week, with Twitter's home page going offline Monday.

Thursday's outage appeared brief, with some users coming back online within 10 to 20 minutes, while others waited longer. But even ten minutes was long enough for the hashtag #facebookdown to appear on other platforms.
