Elon Musk on the Tesla-SolarCity merger, autonomous driving and Trump

Telsa and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk discussed his views on why the electric car company should merge with SolarCity, the impact of autonomous driving, potential future capital raises and Donald Trump in an interview Friday on CNBC's "Squawk Alley."

On the merger, "We really want a future where all cars are electric, where all power is sustainable and clean," Musk said.

"If you have solar panels, batteries and electric cars, you have a complete solution to a sustainable energy future ... it's just critical that all three pieces are there," he added.

On Trump: "He's not the right guy. He doesn't seem to have the sort of character that reflects well on the United States," Musk said
