It's embarrassing to admit, but the other day a potential client asked whether I had taken the time to look over his proposal. I responded, "So far, I've only had the time to peruse it. I'll go over it thoroughly tonight and will get back to you tomorrow."
He paused. "OK...but you realize that peruse actually means to examine closely?"
Oops.
