  • Celeb Collins Soars On Great Stock Pick! Thursday, 10 May 2007 | 11:34 AM ET

    Wow--can Stephen Collins pick em or not. As we mentioned in an earlier post on contest stocks--best performong stock Foster Wheeler let the actor soar into first place in Trading With The Stars--with a $78K gain on  FWLT--which was up 19.96% Wednesday. He now has a total portfolio value of $1,237,825.31 which gives him a $14K lead over Jonathan Tucker with 2 days remaining in the contest. Lots of hooray's for Stephen from the "Morning Call" Team--the show he's playing for.

    Well, our contest "stock report" has some interesting news. One of the best performers was a stock (FWLT) that celeb/actor Stephen Collins had on his list--and one that put him in the lead of Trading With The Stars (more on that in another post).     As we posted earlier, Alcan is one of the best performing stocks in the contest from the latest stats we've collected. CNBC's David Faber had a video report today on the hostile takeover deal for Alcan that Alcoa is trying to engineer. Evidently, this has been a two year "courtship" between the two companies. But any possible friendly deal was stopped last December by Alcan. And Faber says it's possible there could be more "suitors" for Alcan. Here's his report with some info on Alcan.

    Good morning. Shi Nisman widens his lead with a 9.74% gain with SPX Corp Wednesday, and Serge Amelyan holds firm onto second place. Shi is in first with a total portfolio value of $4,608,481.03 up $408,574.48 from Tuesday's total on gains in SPX Corp up 9.74% on Wednesday because of strong earnings. Shi is now all-in on Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical  on earnings news.

    Hey everyone. Here's a look at what the contest stocks are doing. We've added number of shares for the most active. Speaking of the most active, three names make an appearance for the first time--Qwest, Nam Tia Electronics and Vishay Intertechnology. But FMT and BQI are knocked out of the most active. The widely held remain the same. Two "bigger" companies...Chiquita and Wrigley...appear on the list of biggest gainers.

    Good morning. Shi Nisman is still #1 with a total portfolio value of $4,088,023.29--but down $65,544.02 from Friday's total. Shi Lost the $65k on the sale of Regal Beloit Corp. which was down by 1.58% Monday, but he added another $3,000 in bonus bucks. Shi is now all-in with Qwest Communications. Serge Amelyan is #2 with a total portfolio value of $4,053,029.62. Serge is all-in cash.

    Airplane maker Boeing said Wednesday that its first-quarter earnings climbed 27%, thanks largely to robust orders for commercial airplanes and strong defense business.

    US Airways is planning to announce an order for between 20 and 30 Boeing 787s this week in a deal that could be worth $5.9 billion at list prices, according to an unsourced report on The Times of London’s Web site.
