    NEW YORK— U.S. stocks are falling as investors worry about new signs of weakness in China's economy. The Standard& Poor's 500 dropped 16 points, or 0.8 percent, to 1,994 as of noon Eastern time Monday. Home builder stocks fell after the National Association of Realtors said sales of previously occupied homes fell 1.8 percent last month.

  • WASHINGTON, Sept 22- U.S. home resales unexpectedly fell in August as investors stepped away from the market, but the decline probably does not signal renewed weakness in the housing sector. The National Association of Realtors said on Monday existing home sales dropped 1.8 percent to an annual rate of 5.05 million units.

    WASHINGTON— Fewer Americans bought homes in August, as investors retreated from real estate and first-time buyers remained scarce. Sales of existing homes fell 1.8 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.05 million, the National Association of Realtors said Monday.

    WASHINGTON— The National Association of Realtors reports on sales of existing homes in August. The report is scheduled to be released Monday at 10 a.m. Eastern. The ownership rate fell to 64.7 percent through the middle of this year, down from a peak of 69.2 percent toward the end of 2004, according to the Census Bureau.
