Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook IPO

Raised in Dobbs Ferry, NY, Zuckerberg graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and entered Harvard University in 2002, majoring in computer science. He left Harvard two years later to devote his efforts to Facebook. From the start, Zuckerberg displayed an affinity for developing useful and compelling programs based on social ties. Before Facebook, Zuckerberg created Course Match, which helped students decide which classes to take based on other students' choices.

Zuckerberg launched Facebook from his dorm room in February 2004. Initially intended to be a directory for Harvard students, he soon decided to extend it to other schools, then made it available to the public in 2006. Time magazine named Zuckerberg its "Person of the Year" in 2010.

Born: May 14, 1984, Dobbs Ferry, NY

Relationship to Facebook

As head honcho, Zuckerberg sets the strategic direction and guides the culture of the company. Assuming the IPO prices at the top of its range, Zuckerberg's 28.1 percent ownership of Class B shares makes his stake worth about $18.7 billion. A guy could buy a lot of hoodies with that kind of scratch.
