OMAHA, Neb. -- The Rural Media Group has purchased another cable network to expand its programming into more markets.

The Omaha, Neb.-based company said Tuesday it had purchased FamilyNet from Interactive Television and Gaming Networks.

FamilyNet is currently distributed into 14.8 million homes, so the deal will expand Rural Media's distribution into more than 61 million homes in all 50 states.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Rural Media produces RFD-TV and Rural TV with rural-themed programming.

The deal gives the company access to several major markets, including New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas and Los Angeles.

Rural Media CFO Stee Campione says the deal is a good fit because FamilyNet's distribution area is complementary to the company's existing network.

The program schedules of Rural TV and FamilyNet will be merged in January.
