WARSAW, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Poland's central bank kept its key interest rate unchanged at 4.75 percent on Wednesday, defying expectations that it would cut borrowing costs to help the ailing economy.

Twenty-one out of 27 analysts polled by Reuters last week had expected the bank's 10-strong Monetary Policy Council (MPC) to cut the key rate by 25 basis points to 4.50.

The bank will hold a news conference to explain its decision at 1400 GMT.
