Australia shares seen rising on Wall St

SYDNEY, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Australian shares are set to rise after a fourth day of gains on Wall Street, as investors await the release of the closely watched U.S. payrolls report later on Friday.

* Local share price index futures

rose 11 points to 4,471, an 18.6-point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index

. The benchmark rose 0.3 percent on Thursday to 4,452.4, its strongest finish since August 1, 2011.

* New Zealand's benchmark NZX 50 index

gained 0.4 or 14 points to 3,896.4 percent in early trade.

* Wall Street extended gains to a fourth day on Thursday, putting it on the cusp of a new five-year high if Friday's jobs report shows encouraging signs for the labor market.

* Oil prices jumped 5 percent on Thursday as inflamed Middle East tensions stoked supply fears and U.S. gasoline futures rallied following a fire at the largest operating refinery in the United States.

* Gold rose to its highest price in 11 months, with the market's sights set firmly on $1,800 an once, as the inflation-hedge appeal of bullion was bolstered by signs the European Central Bank intends to keep borrowing costs low.

* TPG Capital Management's $700 million bid for Billabong International

is still on the table although the struggling Australian surfwear retailer needs to address some concerns raised by the private equity firm.
