WARSAW, Poland -- Thousands of health care workers are marching in Warsaw to demand higher pay and protest government plans to privatize parts of the health care system.

Nurses and ambulance teams from across the country are walking with banners of Solidarity and other trade unions.

They are demanding higher pay, and opposing government plans to privatize the state-owned sector.

Nurses from Belgium, France, Greece and other European Union nations also joined the Friday rally.

Such protests are frequent in Poland where the health care system remains cash strapped and poorly organized.
