Nevada casino revenues down 3.1 percent in August

CARSON CITY, Nev. -- State officials say Nevada casino revenues are down 3.1 percent in August compared with the same time a year ago.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board reports casinos won $859 million in August.

Southern Nevada numbers mostly dropped, with Las Vegas Strip casinos bringing in $491 million in August. That's down 1.2 percent from a year earlier.

Downtown Las Vegas revenues of $36 million were down 8.4 percent, while Boulder Strip revenues of $56 million were down 17.7 percent.

Washoe County winnings of $68 million were up 5 percent, while south Lake Tahoe winnings of $22 million were down 19.5 percent.

The state of Nevada collected nearly $50 million in taxes based on the August winnings. That's up 5.2 percent from a year ago.
