The FTSE Small Cap index stays flat in early trades, while the blue chips and the mid caps gain 0.2 percent.

Technology provider e2v Technologies falls 4 percent in heavy trading volumes of eight times its 90-day daily average after a warning that it would miss its targets for the year.

AFC Energy are up 16 percent on volumes of five times its 90-day average after announcing an equity investment of 8.7 million pounds by Ervington Investments Ltd, whose main stakeholder is Roman Abramovich. The funds raised will strengthen AFC Energy's balance sheet and provide the company with additional cash resources to execute its long term growth strategy and invest in its low cost fuel cell technology, the company said.
