TABLE-Reuters/U Mich prelim. Oct. sentiment index 83.1

Oct 12 (Reuters) - Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers' preliminary October consumer sentiment index rose to 83.1 from 78.3 in the final September report, according to a report released on Friday.

Economists in a Reuters survey expected a preliminary October sentiment index reading of 78.0.
