Poll: Ruling coalition to win Lithuanian election

VILNIUS, Lithuania -- An exit poll shows that Lithuania's ruling conservative coalition is poised to muster 25 percent of the vote in Sunday's parliamentary election and a populist party will finish first with nearly 20 percent.

The poll by the BNS news agency and the RAIT market research company shows the Labor Party winning the election, and the opposition Social Democrats coming in second with 17.8 percent.

However, the poll indicates that the combined tally for the ruling conservative coalition of the Homeland Union and the Liberal Movement could reach 25 percent, giving them a chance to form the next government.

Seventeen parties and one party union are vying 141 seats in Parliament, though only about six are expected to pass the 5 percent threshold.
