NEW YORK -- Two supermarket chains are informing customers about a recall of nutrition bars because of possible salmonella contamination.

Giant Food and Stop & Shop say they are taking several thinkThin crunch bars off their shelves because the nuts may be contaminated with salmonella. The bars are made by Creative Energy Foods Inc. The recalled items are thinkThin crunch mixed nuts bars, chocolate dipped mixed nuts bars, white chocolate dipped mixed nuts bars, and caramel chocolate dipped mixed nuts bars. All of the bars have best-by dates of July 13, 2013.

The Food and Drug Administration said Friday that Creative Energy Foods was recalling the products because of an expanded recall of peanut products from supplier, Sunland Foods. The recall also includes cherry and mixed nuts bars, blueberry and mixed nuts bars, and cranberry apple and mixed nuts bars. The FDA said the products were distributed to stores nationwide between March 2010 and Friday.

There have been no reports of illnesses associated with the products.
