CAIRO -- The Egyptian Football Federation says it has delayed league games indefinitely because police have not given assurances they can secure matches.

Federation deputy Hassan Farid tells The Associated Press that the Interior Ministry has not ensured it can safeguard the games.

In February, 74 people were killed after a game between Al-Masry and Al-Ahly, the country's most popular team.

Among the 73 people charged are nine senior officers. Local rights groups say security forces stood by to punish Al-Ahly fans for their high-profile involvement in protests against the former regime.

Die-hard Al-Ahly fans have ransacked the federation's headquarters, demanding justice for those killed.
