DENVER -- Sen. Mark Udall says a $50,000 federal grant will help repair and rehabilitate 50 homes of lower-income, rural families in five southwest Colorado counties.

The Colorado Democrat said Thursday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded the grant to the Colorado Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency, known as 4CORE.

The grant can be used to improve housing conditions for lower-income families in Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan counties. That could mean helping pay for work to make homes more accessible for people with disabilities or to improve plumbing, heating, indoor air quality, or other issues.
