DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa's unemployment rate has dropped to 5.2 percent in September, down significantly from the August figure.
Iowa Workforce Development says the September rate released Friday was down from 5.5 percent in August. The rate in September 2011 was 5.9 percent.
Workforce Development Director Teresa Wahlert says the decline was welcome news. She says the latest figures indicate a slow and uneven recovery from the national recession that began in late 2007 and officially ended in June 2009.
Iowa's unemployment rate is far below the national rate of 7.8 percent. That's down from 8.1 percent in August.
