    "Our private equity portfolio and our balance sheet both appreciated 24 percent in 2012, outperforming the S&P 500 and MSCI World indices by over 700 basis points," Henry Kravis and George Roberts, KKR's co-founders and co-chief executives, said in a statement on Thursday.

  • Feb 7- Starwood Hotels& Resorts Worldwide Inc, whose chains include Sheraton and Westin, reported a better-than-expected fourth-quarter profit and said demand is growing in all its important geographies, including Europe. Demand in its other two important geographies, Asia and Europe, is also picking up.

  • Feb 7- IT services company Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp's quarterly profit modestly beat estimates, boosted by a jump in demand from Europe after quarters of tepid growth in business from the region.

  • Feb 7- Fund manager David Einhorn's Greenlight Capital on Thursday said it has sued Apple Inc and said the company needs to do more to unlock value for shareholders. Einhorn said Greenlight filed suit in federal court in New York to force Apple to modify a proposal on its proxy, which Greenlight believes does not conform to regulatory rules.

    Costco Wholesale Corp said January sales at stores open at least a year, or same-store sales, rose 4 percent, slightly ahead of Wall Street projections for a 3.9 percent gain. Other retailers reporting stronger-than-expected sales were the teen-oriented Zumiez Inc, which raised its profit forecast, and department store chain Stage Stores Inc..

  • Feb 7- Health insurer Cigna Corp. reported a higher-than-expected fourth-quarter profit on Thursday and raised its 2013 outlook. Cigna said fourth-quarter net income rose to $406 million, or $1.41 per share, from $273 million, or 98 cents per share, a year earlier.
