Facebook Missing Opportunities: Bibb

Expect Facebook's much-hyped mystery announcement to disappoint on Tuesday, venture capitalist Porter Bibb said on CNBC.

"This is going to be an underwhelming announcement. It's very stage managed," he said. "I think you're going to see a buying opportunity in Facebook when the bottom falls out of this stock after this announcement."

On "Fast Money," Bibb of Media Tech Capital Partners credited CEO Mark Zuckerberg – whose last name he noted meant "mountain of sugar" in German – for creating an "incredible media buzz."

Bibb also brushed off the stock's 60 percent gain over the past three months.

"There's no explaining that except sentiment," he said. "Investors want to see something happen. That 1 billion-user customer base is huge, and nobody has ever done anything like that in technology, and Zuckerberg still has to prove that he can monetize it."

As for what Facebook will reveal, Bibb made a prediction.

"I think it's going to be a mobile app that improves search," he said. "It might be a picture-voice system."

But the company is missing plenty of opportunity, he added.

"If I were Zuckerberg, I would look at a couple of things," he said. "He could buy RIM, for example, and put a Facebook phone in the marketplace in a couple of months. He's got a huge, huge potential in Instagram and the under-30 users, which comprise a majority of Facebook's customer base. That's the main thing they do with their smartphones … He's not touching that. He's got nothing to do with job hunting. He could buy Monster, for example, and add that app, job-search feature."
