Members of the World Economic Forum describe the organization as "an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas."
That's a mouthful.
But the WEF is also, famously, an opportunity for the rich, famous, and powerful to schmooze and party in the Swiss resort town of Davos. It's also an opportunity for the media covering them to ... well, freeze in the cold, work a lot of hours, and schmooze a bit, too.
