CIT Group spiked following a Reuters report saying the company had preliminary talks to sell itself to banks. But a spokesman for CIT told CNBC that they "don't comment on market rumor or speculation."
Chipmaker Texas Instruments gained to hit a 52-week high.
RadioShack rose after the consumer electronics retailer named merchandising veteran Joseph Magnacca as its new CEO. Shares of the troubled electronics retailer have been cut in half over the past year.
Entergy fell after the utility company said the power outage during the Super Bowl was caused by the improper triggering of an electrical relay device.
Ross Stores rose after UBS added the discount retailer to its U.S. key call list with a price target of $75.
