Retail ‘Something Spectacular’: Najarian

Better-than-expected retail sales data might be providing a signal for what comes next, OptionMonster's Jon Najarian said Wednesday.

Retail sales increased 1.1 percent in February, according to the U.S. Commerce Department. Economists in a Reuters poll expected an increase of 0.5 percent.

On CNBC's "Fast Money," Najarian called the numbers "something spectacular."

"And we were supposed to be hit by gasoline prices going up, payroll tax – they put it back on – as well as government cuts, and instead, we get numbers that twice as good as anybody expected," he said.

"I thought they were extremely telling about where we're likely to go next."

OptionMonster co-founder Pete Najarian said that he liked retailer TJX over Ross Stores, as well as a stock such as Whirlpool, which provides exposure to the housing comeback and consumer spending.

"So the consumer's doing better because housing prices are up 8.3 percent, according to CoreLogic," TheStreet CIO Stephanie Link said. "Jobs, also, are getting better."

Link also said that she liked TJX because "they kind of do well in any environment," adding that the company had recently posted double-digit revenues and earnings growth while the stock was flat since summer.

Nordstrom and The Tile Shop were two other stocks she liked.
