Chuck Bath, named "Ultimate Stock Picker" by Morningstar, said Friday on CNBC that a couple of names held solid promise.
On "Fast Money," Bath said that he was focused on "companies that can deliver earnings."
Retailer TJX was among his top picks, partially for its "proven ability" to take significant market share from the likes of JCPenney.
"In a difficult environment in retail, you want to own the names that are gaining share and the valuation's attractive," he said.
Bath, who runs the Diamond Hill Large Cap Value Portfolio, said that he expected TJX to post earnings growth of 10 percent this year.
Property casualty insurance was a strong industry, and AIG was well-positioned within the space, Bath noted.
"The valuation is really quite compelling," he said.
