Pat Kiernan

Pat Kiernan is a veteran broadcaster who knows business.

Shortly after his graduation from the business school at the University of Alberta, he became the host of "Alberta Business," a weekly series of profiles of small businesses.

In 1996, Pat made the jump from Canada to New York City, joining Time Inc. as the host of the nightly "Fortune Business Report." Among the guests on his program that year was a young entrepreneur named Jeff Bezos, who told Pat of a grand vision for an online bookshop called "Amazon." In New York, Pat's reports were seen on NY1 News, beginning a partnership with the all-news channel that continues today. He's served as NY1's morning anchor since 1997. Pat has become so identifiable with New York City news that he's frequently asked to appear "as himself" to add authenticity to movies and scripted TV series. Recent credits include "Law and Order," "30 Rock," and "The Avengers."

As co-host of "The Money Gang" on CNNfn from 2000 to 2004, Pat interviewed hundreds of America's top CEOs. His program was known for providing an entertaining mix of traditional business headlines and "news you can use" about personal finance and small business.

In 2004, Pat teamed up with Crowd Rules executive producer Michael Davies to launch Studio 7, a hybrid game/reality show for the WB Network. They collaborated again two years later for VH1's "World Series of Pop Culture." In 2012, he co-hosted "Live with Kelly" on several occasions, with the New York Daily News naming him one of the top candidates to replace Regis Philbin on the popular morning show.

Pat does more than talk about business. He speaks from the experience of running his own small production company. Through it, he publishes his website PatsPapers.com, and produces live trivia events for corporate and ticketed audiences.

In evaluating businesses large and small, Pat emphasizes seven key factors: strength of leadership, vision, the customer experience, use of data in decision making, quality, integrity and, of course, potential for profit.
