A 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit western Japan early on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The USGS said the quake's epicenter was 24 miles northwest of Wakayama in western Honshu, the main island, and occurred at a depth of 3.3 miles. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
