Lower prices are helping to draw people back to cruise ships, an industry that saw a drop in bookings after several high-profile incidents at sea, Expedia's CEO told CNBC on Thursday.
"The fact is that a cruise is a great deal when things go right." said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of the travel booking company. "It's just that too many things have gone wrong recently."

Aside from cruise lines, Khosrowshahi said on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street," poor U.S. weather conditions are a no-win situation for both booking services and airlines. "There is no winner here. The airlines do their best, we do our best," he said, as the company mobilizes its staff to respond to potential flight cancellations.
At this point, however, he said Expedia was not seeing higher-than-normal cancellations.

Khosrowshahi does see potential for mobile technologies to reduce the pain caused by unpredictable conditions. "We can tell you if there's a delay, we can tell you when there is a gate change. Now we can communicate two-way to you, which we really think can really improve the experience of what is fundamentally a bad situation," he said.
