List: Which luxury cars are stolen most often?
When it comes to stealing luxury cars, Mercedes-Benz has proven to be the top choice among thieves, according to a new report.
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the most stolen luxury car, the National Insurance Crime Bureau reports. And two of its brand stablemates are on the list as well: the E-Class is in fourth place and the S-Class is in 10th place.
The study is based on thefts entered in the National Crime Information Center database.
BMW shows up in second place with its 3 series, and again sixth place with the 5 Series in the study, which looks at thefts of 2010 to 2012 model-year cars across the country.
Also in the Top 10: the Infiniti G Class, Cadillac CTS, Lincoln MKZ, Acura TSX and Lexus IS.
Overall, 4,384 luxury-class vehicles were stolen during the period covered by the report, with compact luxury cars most popular with thieves. Of those, 713 remain unrecovered at the time of this report, meaning the recovery rate is 83.7%.
The Infiniti G Series had the highest number of unrecovered thefts, at 83, followed by the Mercedes-Benz E Class with 80 and the Mercedes-Benz C Class with 78.
