LONDON, 23 August 2013 – The next episode of CNBC Meets, presenter Tania Bryer conducts a very personal interview with global music artist and entrepreneur will.i.am.
The 30 minute interview will premiere in the UK and across Europe on 11th September 2013 at 10.00pm BST and will be available online to view in full from 12th September at ww.cnbcmeets.cnbc.com. The programme will also air on CNBC networks in the United States and Asia Pacific (see air dates).
In an honest and frank interview filmed on location in Los Angeles and London, will.i.am talks to Tania about his childhood and what it was like growing up on a housing project in Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles.
The programme features for the first time ever, an exclusive in depth interview with will.i.am's mother Debra Cain, who talks with Tania about what he was like as a child and the struggle and sacrifices she had to make in order for him to start his journey to success. Debra and will.i.am also take Tania to visit the neighbourhood where he grew up and to the house where it all started.
In the interview, will.i.am discusses his music career and the challenges and success achieved with The Black Eyed Peas. Tania also speaks with will.i.am's childhood friend apl.de.ap for further insight into one of the most iconic music artists of his generation.
will.i.am also tells Tania about why inner city philanthropy and education is so important to him and why he started the i.am.angel Foundation which works with underprivileged young people.
In the interview will.i.am discusses his philanthropic goal: "I want to be able to bring all of the world's greatest thinkers to be a part a conversation that will help transform inner cities and people's lives. By improving inner cities through education and opportunity, people will stay and create new jobs, versus focusing on leaving.
"With a group of great minds, we can think about what tomorrow looks like, raise money to improve education and encourage kids in the inner city to become scientists, technicians, engineers and mathematicians. I want to couple them with mentors to get them on the right track so they can be a part of the conversation and realise that they're not outside. They're on the inside."
The programme also features an interview with Angela Ahrendts, CEO of Burberry, a close personal friend who works with will.i.am on his TRANS4M philanthropic initiative. We also hear from Martina Milburn CBE, Chief Executive of The Prince's Trust about will.i.am's support of education,training and enterprise schemes in the UK.
