Apple's television hardware is set for an internal overhaul next week, AllThingsD reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Fresh off its launch of its new iPhones, the technology giant plans to tweak Apple TV on September 18 – the same day it releases iOS 7 mobile operating software, AllThingsD said on its website.

The new Apple TV feature will include new software that allows people who have purchased content from Apple's iTunes store to play content on other televisions, via Apple's Airplay system. According to the site, the new feature will allow users to stream media directly from the cloud, along the lines of Google's Chromecast device.
