CNBC's Rick Santelli says Congress should pay close attention to a poll showing most Americans don't want to raise the nation's debt ceiling, even if it leads to a default.

In his "Santelli Exchange," CNBC's Rick Santelli says Congress needs to pay close attention to a new poll sponsored by a libertarian group showing most Americans don't want to raise the nation's debt ceiling.

Santelli says a new Reason-Rupe poll shows 70 percent of those surveyed are against an increase in the debt limit, with 55 percent saying they they would remain opposed even if the U.S. has to default on some of its debt.

Santelli strongly rejected an earlier suggestion on CNBC by Ben White of Politico that Americans don't really understand the issue.
