Akira Arima is the President and CEO of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), one of the world's largest telecommunications carriers. Since taking office in June 2010, he guided NTT Com's reorganization and evolution as a leading global provider of ICT services, including an increased emphasis on cloud services. To help enterprise customers expand rapidly overseas, he has actively pursued strategic global mergers and acquisitions, including NetMagic Solutions, Frontline Systems and Gyron for data center services.
Akira Arima earned an MBA from Stanford University in 1981. After contributing to the privatization of NTT in 1985, he eventually became head of the corporate planning division of NTT Corporation in 1999, where he spearheaded the NTT Group's three-year business plan. From 2005, as the NTT board member in charge of medium-term strategy, he helped guide the company's adoption of NGN and opticalization, and the strategic realignment of each NTT Group company's roles and responsibilities.
