He was conferred an Honorary Doctoral Degree of Business Administration in Thailand in 2011. He is listed as #14 of the ICI Stop 50 power players in the petrochemical industry. As an entrepreneur, Aloke set up his first specialty chemical business in Thailand in 1988, using agricultural waste to make furfural alcohol for the steel industry. He became Thailand's first and only wool yarn manufacturer in the 1990's culminating with the country's first PET resin facility in 1995.
Realizing that PET was in great demand by the packaging industry but in short supply, Aloke gained spectacular success when he decided to expand overseas in pursuit of his major customers, growing Indorama Ventures to become the world's largest PET producer today.
