Jose Victor P. Paterno
President & CEO
Philippine Seven Corporation
Victor Paterno is an engineer by education, experience, and disposition who fell into retailing when he joined the company by his father's invitation as Construction and Maintenance Manager in the company in 1993. The assignment was supposed to be temporary, but after finding challenges in the hidden complexities of retailing and satisfaction in its immediate, tangible results, he stayed on longer than planned. He was appointed President and CEO in 2005 by majority shareholders in President Chain Store of Taiwan.
A onetime technology entrepreneur, he believes in the potential for technology to transform small-format retail.
About the Company
Philippine Seven Corporation holds the license to operate 7-Eleven convenience stores in the Philippines. It opened its first store in 1984, and went public in 1998. In 2001, President Chain Store, 7-Eleven licensee of Taiwan acquired a majority stake.
The company's vision is to be the best retailer of convenience for emerging markets. While the potential for the format is great in such environments, its value proposition must differ from the developed markets it sprang from. It seeks to achieve its mission of bringing modern convenience to its customers' daily lives by building a culture around the values of teamwork, reliability, customer focus, being results-oriented, and integrity.
