Mr. Purvis obtained his honors degree in Mining Engineering from Leeds University in the UK and originally joined the Sakari Group in 1997 to develop the Sebuku Coal Mine in Indonesia. He has over 30 years' experience in the resources industry working in a wide range of senior management and operating roles in major mining companies in South Africa, Indonesia, Singapore and Australia. For a large part of this time his focus has been on the evaluation, development and commercialization of coal opportunities and projects.
Mr. Purvis managed Sakari's pioneering IPO on the SGX in 2006. He has been a Director of the Company since its listing and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in March 2010. He is also a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Although Mr. Purvis is currently retired, he has been nominated for the role he has played as CEO during his tenure in the company.

Sakari is a top tier exporter of Indonesian thermal coal, offering reliable, high quality products to some of Asia's largest power utilities and industrial companies. Across the volatile economic cycle of the past three years, Sakari has achieved revenue growth of around 19%, which has driven a three-year compound average growth rate in net profit after tax of 11%. This result has been achieved through strenuous efforts to control costs and implement innovative business improvements.
In recognition of its approach to responsible practices in a sensitive industry, the Group has received many awards from all levels of government for its work in safety, environmental management, community development and other sustainable practices.
