Obamacare website down again, cannot access federal data hub
Here it goes — down — again.
The federal Obamacare marketplace remained out of service Wednesday because of the second outage this week of the company that hosts key components of the HealthCare.gov site
Federal officials said they are still trying to determine the "root cause" of both outages, which crippled the ability of both HealthCare.gov and 15 state-run Obamacare insurance markets to verify the incomes and subsidy eligibility of people applying for health coverage.
The first outage involved Verizon's Terremark division, which hosts the hub and enrollment functions for the federal marketplace, occured Sunday. The second outage occurred Wednesday night and stretched into Thursday morning.
State marketplaces were able to access the federal data hub as of 5 a.m. Wednesday. But continued technical issues are still preventing HealthCare.gov, which offers insurance to residents of 36 states, from accessing the federal hub, or in allowing enrollments.
HealthCare.gov was out of service during the several hours that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius testified under withering criticism from a Congressional committee about the continue tech troubles at the federal marketplace.
