Shooting incident prompts evacuation at LAX, situation developing

A man with a rifle was reportedly able to get past security and open fire in terminal 3 of LAX airport today. Two people are reported injured. CNBC's Scott Cohn reports the incident may be winding down.

A shooting incident forced a partial evacuation of Los Angeles International Airport on Friday.

Airport officials confirmed an incident took place around 9:30 a.m. PT in Terminal 3.

Sources told NBC it was possible that two people had been shot, and that the suspect may have brought a rifle of some sort to the airport.

The Los Angeles Times reported that at a Transportation Security Administration agent had been shot, though further details were not available.

Aerial video from the local NBC affiliate showed multiple police on the scene and at least one person being brought out of the airport on a wheelchair. People were also being taken by bus from the airport tarmac to a separate location.

Terminal 3, where the incident took place, serves airlines including Virgin America and JetBlue.

The FAA reported there was a ground stop in effect for traffic arriving at LAX.
