CNBC Meets: Sir Philip Green, part one

Tania Bryer gains unprecedented access to "The King of the High Street," Sir Philip Green, whose Arcadia Group owns 2,500 retail stores in the U.K. and a further 550 in 37 markets across the world.

In part one, Green explains his long fascination with business and his decision to leave school at 16 to pursue a career in retail. Green talks about both the ups and downs, including his first business at 23, when he began importing and selling jeans, and his first store at 41 Conduit Street in London.

While Green managed to turnaround the flailing store Jean Jeanie in the 1980s, he experienced a tumultuous tenure at discount retailer Amber Day, where he was eventually forced ousted in 1992.

Was that a set back for Green? "I was back in business within four weeks."
