Google's email service, as well as some of its other apps, went down for some users on Friday afternoon.

Google did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment

Some of the other services that were affected besides Gmail were Google Drive, Picasa as well as its social-networking site Google Plus.

Following the outage, Google stock was down about 2.4 percent. (Click here to track its shares following the report.)

While Gmail was experiencing errors, Yahoo took a shot at Google with a tweet.

Yahoo's tweet had a screen grab of the error message with the text "Gmail is temporarily unavailable"

Yahoo quickly deleted the tweet, though.
