Smash-and-grab robbery at Cartier

Hammer-wielding masked robbers made their way into a Cartier store in midtown Manhattan in the middle of the shopping day, smashed a display case and stole 16 watches worth more than $700,000, WNBC reports.

The heist at the Cartier store at Fifth Avenue and 52nd Street happened at around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

The NYPD is trying to identify the five robbers .
